Get ready for a night of musical fireworks. Guest pianist Ya-Ju Chuang joins the Dorothy Gerber Youth Orchestra for Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 1, bringing its dazzling piano passages to life. Then the orchestra’s own musicians step into the spotlight for the dramatic solos and Spanish-inspired rhythms of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Capriccio Espagnol. The evening opens with familiar favorites from The Little Mermaid. All are welcome to attend this FREE concert filled with musical excellence.
The program features the 1st Piano Concerto by Beethoven, with Ya-Ju Chuang as the guest piano soloist. This piece gives her many opportunities to show off her amazing skills. Here is information about her - https://www.interlochen.org/person/ya-ju-chuang
The main orchestra piece is “Capriccio Espagnol” by Nicolai Rimsky-Korsakov. Though Rimsky-Korsakov was Russian, he (like other composers) had a fascination with the music of Spain. There are elements of Spanish dances as well as imitation of the guitar. This is a show-piece that features individuals in the orchestra (including Concertmaster Eeva Rintala) demonstrating their skills in dramatic solos.
The program will begin with a Suite from the popular movie “The Little Mermaid”, including favorites like “Part of Your World” and “Under the Sea.”
