Paleobiology from the Carboniferous to the Permian
Presented by Jessica Hull, DGMS Member
Paleobiology from the Carboniferous to the Permian is the topic of the June meeting of the Dayton Gem and Mineral Society.
Paleobiology is an interdisciplinary field that studies the history of life on Earth through fossils and other evidence. The Carboniferous and Permian periods span approximately 60 million years of Earth's history, a time when terrestrial plants and animals became firmly established across the landscape.
"The newest rock in Ohio comes from the Carboniferous and Permian periods, but what was life really like back then?" asks presenter Jessica Hull. Her program will explore what scientists have learned about these dynamic periods and introduce the fascinating world of synapsids, the proto-mammals that helped pave the way for the mammals we know today.
Jessica has been collecting fossils since 2006 and studying prehistoric life since 2009. She brings a passion for paleontology and a talent for making ancient life accessible and engaging for audiences of all experience levels.
