GAK Cultural Chair Travis Jerde will discuss the stories of German Christmas Characters and their historical lineage or "genealogy" through time. From Nikolaus, Ruprecht and Krampus, to Odin-inspired gnomes and goddesses, St. Lucia, and to the beloved Christkind and her shortlived alter-ego Hans Trapp. We'll talk about who they are/were, and how they evolved around and through each other over centuries through artifacts and depictions in preserved art.
