Think you know Parkdale? We guarantee you’ll see something new on one, two, or all three of our walking tours this Parkdale Day. We invite you to journey through what’s been, what’s coming, and the artists who materialize the magic of this community. In partnership with Gallery 1313, Adam Wynne, Parkdale Housing Justice Network (PHJN), and Flick the Switch Artists.Developments Walk
12:30 pm – 2:00 pm
Duration: Approx. 1h30m
There are over 4,000 new units proposed for South Parkdale! The PRA has been mapping new development proposals so you can see the scale of change that’s coming. Members of the PHJN will join us to channel your questions into action – is this good for Parkdale? How can we have a say?
Ric Amis is a lens-based artist working in photography, film, and video, with exhibitions in Canada, the USA, Poland, England, and France. His work has appeared in galleries, performances, and on broadcast TV. A founder of Toronto’s first artists’ live/work co-ops and an early advocate for Artscape, he remains active in Parkdale community organizations focused on housing and the arts, including the PRA, WSCC, PNLT, and Waterfront for All.
Carly Kastner labours across community engagement and creative storytelling. She has worked for more than 10 years to amplify voices of artists and reach diverse audiences through agencies that include the National Film Board of Canada and the Toronto International Film Festival. Dedicated to local grassroots advocacy and community governance, she is the Vice Chair of the Parkdale Residents Association and the Vice Chair of the Regent Park Film Festival. She is currently working towards a future that values cooperative principles as an alternative economic model for sustainable and equitable exchange.
Erin Wotherspoon is an organizer with Parkdale Housing Justice Network (PHJN) and Off The Defensive (OTD). She is a community health worker, mom to Pearl, and a writer. Some of her work has appeared in the Toronto Star, CBC, and City Hall Watcher. Stay tuned for an upcoming piece in The Grind about PHJN’s fight against the Ontario Land Tribunal!
