About this Event
Young people
We are holding 7 facilitated conversations on six themes around nature in Surrey to involve people and organisations in developing a strategy for nature recovery. The aim of these conversations is to develop a list of priorities for nature recovery, look at actions that are already underway to help nature, further actions which could deliver that recovery and any challenges.
The conversation will be facilitated by Resources for Change (R4C) and supported by the team working on the strategy.
To find out more about Local Nature Recovery Strategies and how you can help develop one for Surrey visit, Have Your Say Today - Local Nature Recovery Strategy - Commonplace.
Required by law under the Environment Act 2021, every county in England needs to produce a Local Nature Recovery Strategy (LNRS). The LNRS is a new spatial strategy to identify locations that will help to restore, enhance and connect the natural environment and create more wildlife-rich places. The strategy will also consider how nature recovery can provide other environmental benefits, such as carbon sequestration, flood regulation and access to nature-rich spaces where this is most needed for health and wellbeing.
The Local Nature Recovery Strategy will:
- Agree priorities for nature's recovery
- Map the most valuable existing areas for nature
- Map specific proposals for creating and improving habitat for nature and wider environmental benefits
Decisions about where and how to recover nature will be reached through consultation with a wide range of people and groups in each county, from ecologists and community groups to health professionals and local businesses.
In Surrey, we want everyone to have their say.
The LNRS will help to direct new funding streams for nature recovery from the public and private sector. It will also link with Biodiversity Net Gain, a new planning requirement to ensure habitat for wildlife is in a better state than it was before development.
