About this Event
Detroit Zoo: Mudpuppy Mission
Join STEAM Club on Thursday, February 6th to learn about mudpuppies!
Not a puppy, but a salamander! Mudpuppies, a freshwater species living in our Detroit River, are of special concern in Michigan. Learn about "bioindication" and how mudpuppies are water quality testers. Discover how different "sites" around metro Detroit serve as habitats by collecting mudpuppy data. Explore why these hard-to-find amphibians are so important to our freshwater ecosystems. Ages 5 & up are welcome.
Don't forget to checkout next month's program with the Detroit Zoo. Look below for details!
Join STEAM Club on Thursday, March 6th to learn about plovers!
Piping plovers are small shorebirds that must overcome big challenges before hatching, growing, and migrating. To understand the plover's plight, learn about the everyday actions that place piping plovers in danger, identify at-risk nesting sites, and discover how ecologists help populations through captive-rearing techniques, bird banding, and nest security. Ages 5 & up are welcome.
