Detroit Legacy Weekend is a citywide discovery experience inviting residents and visitors to connect with the businesses, institutions, and places that have helped shape the fabric of Detroit for generations.
For three days, residents and visitors are invited to get out, explore and experience Detroit's legacy through the places that continue to tell the story of the city.
Use the Detroit Legacy Weekend Digital Discovery Guide to explore The Legacy Loop, our curated Downtown Detroit experience, and then go Beyond the Loop to discover additional legacy destinations throughout the city.
START THE DISCOVERY: DETROIT LEGACY WEEKEND KICKOFF

Meet us in Raandolph Plaza as we officially kick off Detroit Legacy Weekend!
Enjoy music from our DJ, classic car showcase and pick up your Detroit Legacy Weekend button, access the Digital Discovery Guide and get everything you need to start exploring.
Come by anytime between 10 AM and noon, then head out to Shop the Legacy, ride The Legacy Loop or go Beyond the Loop.
The kickoff is presented in partnership with the Greektown Association and Downtown Detroit Partnership.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Register for Detroit Legacy Weekend.
Registration is free and gives you access to weekend updates, participating destinations, special experiences and the Detroit Legacy Weekend Digital Discovery Guide.
There is no admission price and no single place you have to be.
FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 18
SHOP THE LEGACY
Start the weekend by supporting the longtime retailers, specialty shops, bookstores, jewelers and other businesses that have served Detroit for generations.
Walk through the doors. Meet the people. Learn the stories. And, most importantly, support the businesses that continue to be part of Detroit's story.
SATURDAY, SEPTEMBER 19
TASTE THE LEGACY
Saturday is your invitation to experience Detroit through the places and flavors that have become part of the city's identity.
Visit longtime restaurants, and other culinary destinations. Order a favorite, try somewhere you've never been and discover the stories behind the places Detroiters have gathered around for generations.
SPECIAL SATURDAY EXPERIENCE
CITY INSTITUTE GUIDED LEGACY TOUR
City Institute is partnering with Detroit Legacy Weekend to offer a special Saturday guided experience highlighting legacy businesses and the stories connected to them.
Approximately 2 hours
Limited to approximately 30 participants
FREE
Advance registration required
Registration for the City Institute guided tour will be managed separately by City Institute. A reservation link will be provided when tour registration opens.
The City Institute route and featured stops will also be incorporated into the Digital Discovery Guide so Detroit Legacy Weekend participants can explore the route independently.
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 20
VISIT THE LEGACY
Close out Detroit Legacy Weekend by discovering the institutions and places that preserve, interpret and carry Detroit's history and culture forward.
Visit museums, historic institutions, cultural destinations, entertainment venues, legacy churches and other places that have played a meaningful role in the life of the city.
Step inside a place you've passed countless times. Take a tour. Experience the architecture. Learn a piece of Detroit history you didn't know.
Sunday is an invitation to slow down, look closer and experience the places where Detroit's legacy lives.
THE LEGACY LOOP + BEYOND THE LOOP
There are two ways to explore Detroit Legacy Weekend.
THE LEGACY LOOP
Start Downtown with a curated collection of legacy destinations. Walk, explore and use the Detroit People Mover to help move through Downtown.
BEYOND THE LOOP
Then continue your discovery throughout Detroit, visiting additional legacy businesses, institutions and places across the city.
There is no required route and no requirement to visit every destination.
Choose what interests you and make the discovery your own.
