In late December of 1904 prolific Detroit architect Gordon W. Lloyd died suddenly in a San Francisco restaurant, just one day shy of a Pacific Ocean cruise to the south seas and Australia. He would leave an impressive architectural legacy that today includes over twenty extant church buildings throughout Detroit, Michigan and the greater Midwest. Join author, photographer and architectural historian Dale A. Carlson for an hour long examination of Lloyd’s life and career that includes many close looks at his extant inventory of structures. If you’ve ever admired the appearance of the entrance gate at Elmwood Cemetery, the David Whitney Mansion at 4421 Woodward Avenue, or the renovated buildings of the old Traverse City State Hospital (now known as The Village at Grand Traverse Common) you won’t want to miss it.
Participation is included with general admission.
