The Disciples of Dirt invite you to join us on Memorial Weekend as we explore the Spence Mountain trails near Klamath Falls! Klamath Trails Alliance have been working really hard to build mountain bike trails in their backyard, and it shows. These trails have the scenic backdrop of Klamath Lake, and the system of trails allows you to choose your own trail style and level. Here's the details: 1) DOD will be camped out at Harriman Springs Resort and Marina starting Friday evening. Call now to reserve an RV spot ($35-45 night depending on services). For tent camping, it's $25/night with no need to reserve - there's plenty of space for tents. Showers, cafe, laundry, and boat rental are all there if you want to make it a family outing.

2) We'll meet on Saturday at 10am at Shoalwater Cove Trailhead off Eagle Ridge Road. We'll do a couple laps from there - climbing Shoalwater to Captain Jack, and from there you'll have your choice of the blue flowy Chinquapin, or two blacks - Nighthawk and Northridge to take you back to the start. Each lap is about 1000' of climbing. From there, it's choose your own adventure the rest of the day and on Sunday. You're encouraged to park at Spence Mountain Trailhead on Highway 140 on Sunday and explore the trails along the ridgeline. There's many other trails to explore in the area as well, from Moore Mountain to Brown Mountain.
3) Klamath Trails Alliance will be doing trail work and camping at a so-far unnamed spot that weekend, but they have invited us to a post-work social around the campfire. We'll keep you updated on this.
Q&A
4) Are e-bikes allowed? Yes.
5) What type of terrain is this? Expect everything from fast-flowy machine built for the blue trails to aggressive, rocky lava riding with some smaller drops on the blacks.
6) Is this a good time of year for riding Spence? According to KTA, this is about the best time to ride - snow is melted but trails aren't blown out or completely dry.
5) Are Spence Mtn trails MTB-only? No - but they are only open to mountain bikes and hikers/runners. No horses or motorcycles allowed.
6) Do I have to ride with DOD? No - feel free to choose your own adventure. If you have an e-bike, you might want to find an e-bike tribe that weekend for covering longer distances.
We're excited to ride the result of KTA's hard work so we'll see you there!
