DesignTinkers 5-day Camp 9* (Jul)
About this Event
Join us for an exciting 5-day Holiday Camp where children dive into a world of creativity and innovation! Designed to spark curiosity, this hands-on camp invites kids to explore a variety of make-and-build projects; encouraging experimentation, enhancing dexterity, and strengthening both creative and critical thinking skills. Each day brings a new opportunity to learn, create, and have fun through purposeful play
On Day 1, students will explore model making and be creative in building up a treehouse design. with a real tree branch as their site context, they'll explore form, features, levels, platforms, and openings, thinking creatively about how their treehouse will look and function. They will learn how to provide proper support and access, bringing their imaginative designs to life through thoughtful construction.

On Days 2 & 3, students will dive deep into one of the biggest challenges of our future: rising sea levels and how architecture might adapt. In this two-day camp, they will explore future-focused design as they tackle the challenge of creating innovative underwater homes for life beneath the sea.
Taking on the role of “Ocean Pioneers,” students will design futuristic dwellings engineered to withstand the immense pressures of the deep sea while creating dynamic, liveable spaces. Their mission begins with conceptual sketches, mapping out living quarters alongside the essential systems and equipment needed for a home to function beneath the waves.
They will then bring their ideas to life through 3D prototyping, transforming concepts on paper into tangible models as they test, refine, and reimagine what underwater living could look like.
Exploring ideas and spatial planning to create a home prototype
The "Design an Animal Sanctuary" program, held on Days 4 and 5, invites young, creative minds to become thoughtful designers. Students will learn how intentional design can support animal welfare and create harmony between wildlife and urban environments. By focusing on a specific animal, from a core list of penguins, monkeys, elephants, or otters, or a self-chosen species, they will research its specific needs and apply that knowledge to design a safe and dignified sanctuary.
Over the course of the camp, students will first brainstorm and sketch a preliminary design before beginning to build a three-dimensional prototype using various materials. The following day is dedicated to refining their creations and preparing for a final presentation. This project-based experience goes beyond simple design, encouraging students to consider the importance of conservation, coexistence, and how sanctuaries, unlike traditional zoos, prioritize an animal's well-being and natural behaviours.

DesignTinkers camps are thoughtfully curated and led by a passionate team of educators, architects and designers with a shared mission: to inspire and empower young minds through design. With extensive experience working with children and teens, our instructors are dedicated to nurturing each student’s creative interests in a fun, engaging, and supportive environment. Our camps are held in our spacious and conducive classrooms where students can create and explore freely under guidance.
