About this Event

💜Design for good💜

Technology has the power to do more than solve business problems. It can improve lives, empower communities, and help tackle some of the challenges people face every day.

We will hear from people working on projects designed to make a real difference.

For Good: Design for a Solarpunk Future

Hannah Davies (she/her), Senior Design Researcher at Lloyds Banking Group (https://www.linkedin.com/in/hannahdavies00/)

How can we put our design, research, and product brains into good use outside of work? How many of our skills are transferable that we may not realise?

From solar-powered Raspberry Pi units to figuring out how to build a damn good veggie patch: we'll be scheming up ways we can invent more in our lives.

AI: The Good Bytes

Josh Asquith (he/him), AI Product Owner at NatWest Group PLC (https://www.linkedin.com/in/josh-asquith/)

As the AI bubble booms with no sign of stopping, there are plenty of headlines that show us the negative side of what seems like a mysterious new technology. In this talk, Josh will focus on the success stories in communities that are benefitting from AI technologies (generative and otherwise) without ignoring the concerns many share. This talk will cover the benefits seen in communities where technology is often inaccessible, how we can use the same concepts in our design and development of new technology, and what we can do as individuals to do good with this technology both on and offline.

The joy of making a difference: Lessons from start-up teams

You-Zhen Lin (she/her), founder of Walay Design (https://www.linkedin.com/in/you-zhen-lin-zoey30/)

As a freelancer for 5+ years, she has joined a few startup teams to bring digital products to life, especially in the social impact space. In early-stage teams, she usually has to wear many hats, including a product designer, product manager, front-end engineer, and graphic designer. It’s still very meaningful when a product can create meaningful change in people’s lives. In her talk, she will share her experiences and insights from working on social-impact projects and how helpful AI tools have been since she started using them.

More information about our remaining speakers will be shared soon.
