Descendents' Day @ the Nashville City Cemetery

First opened in 1822, the Nashville City Cemetery is the city's oldest public burial ground. Within its 27 acres in the heart of Nashville, over 20,000 people have been laid to rest. Descendents' Day recognizes and honors their lives and legacies. Typically celebrated on the last Sunday on June, Descendents Days have provided this opportunity across the United States for decades; we hope you will join ours on Sunday, June 28, 2026.
The event will kick off with a brief presentation at 12:00 PM that celebrates America's 250th anniversary and feature optional activities to follow. We will begin to wind down around 4:00 PM, so feel free to drop in as you're available and interested. This is a free event, but donations are appreciated. Securing a ticket helps us understand and prepare appropriately.

Purchase goodies from the t-shirt bar, enjoy lunch and snacks from the La Revolución Taco truck, and participate in a tombstone cleaning! We will have representatives from Metro Archives sharing materials dating back to the city and the cemetery's earliest days, as well as a virtual mapping demonstration from Kapala that shows how we leverage today's technology to share some of those same stories.

The Nashville City Cemetery is a Metro Nashville Public Park managed in partnership with the Metro Historical Commission with support from the Nashville City Cemetery Association. The cemetery is open every day from dawn to dusk, dog-friendly, handicap accessible, and features free parking.
