Introducing “Descendants”, Sonny and Lisa Moeckel’s most Prominent solo exhibition yet. A 2 day event from Friday April 3 from 5 pm to 8 pm and Saturday April 3 from 10 am to 2 pm only. Featuring special guest artist Godfitti & live music showcase (Friday 7pm) featuring Native American musician Bambii. There will be giveaways, door prizes, auction items, refreshments & more!!! Free event and all ages welcome. “Descendants” is a reflection on history, culture, and the stories that live inside us.
For me, this show is deeply personal. My great grandfather was Jicarilla Apache Chief James Garfield Velarde, and while generations pass, the presence of those who came before us never disappears. Their strength, survival, and spirit continue through us.
These portraits are not just paintings of individuals, they are reminders that we are all part of something larger than ourselves. Indigenous history is not something that only exists in the past. It lives through descendants, through culture, through memory, and through the act of remembering.
We remember. They remain.
This exhibition honors the resilience of Indigenous people, the beauty of ancestry, and the responsibility we carry as descendants to keep these stories alive.
