About this Event
Peak Outdoor Coaching offer women-only hikes in and around the Peak District. This walk takes us to the Dark Peak area, taking in some spectacular views such as the Back Tor trig point, Derwent Edge and the Salt Cellar, as well as Boot's Folly.
If you want to learn some history about this area and meet some like-minded women, come along for a great day out in the hills!
Distance: 8 miles/14km
Elevation: 1100ft/340m
Level of difficulty: Easy/Moderate/Challenging: some hill walking experience and a good level of fitness required to tackle the hills, uneven terrain and distance.
Who will be your guide?
I’m Emily, founder of Peak Outdoor Coaching, and I’m a Hill and Moorland Leader based in Glossop at the edge of the Dark Peak. I’ve always been outdoorsy since being a young girl but hiking became a real obsession in 2019 when I started to go solo. I aim to inspire other women to learn the many benefits of exploring in the outdoors and I’m passionate about sharing my love for adventure with you! Feel free to check out my website: Peak Outdoor Coaching
Transport:
We will be meeting at some roadside parking on Mortimer Rd, Sheffield. Grid Ref: SK 22705 90891 (Google maps: https://maps.app.goo.gl/QEfiMb1L6Bndx3JQA)
I am always happy to car share from Glossop so do let me know if you're based in the area or need picking up from a nearby train station.
We aim to set off at 9am so please arrive on time.
What to bring:
Hiking boots/trainers with good grip (they will get muddy!)
Snacks/lunch
Rucksack
Water (at least 1L)
Waterproofs
Warm layers
Hat and gloves
Walking poles (optional)
A small first aid kit with any personal medications
Terrain:
Mostly trails and footpaths. Some uphill sections and muddy areas with uneven terrain. There are a few stiles on this route.
Toilets:
There are no toilets at the parking area or along the route. I will point out discreet spots for 'wild wees'!
Safety:
The whole point of the walk is to be an enjoyable and memorable experience for everyone so we will keep to a slow and steady pace. It's about taking in the views, learning about the history and geology of the area and being in nature, not about rushing to the finish line. Having said that, you are responsible for your own health and safety and with all outdoor activities, there can be risks involved. If you are unsure as to whether you are fit to come on this walk, please either consult your doctor or let me know your concerns. Please inform me of any medical conditions prior to the walk.
I am a qualified Hill and Moorland Leader and I am level 3 Outdoor First Aid trained so I will be on hand in case of an emergency.
Dogs:
Well-bahaved dogs are more than welcome to come along, however, there will be livestock around and potentially other dogs, so they will need to stay on a lead for parts of it.
Refund Policy:
Refunds will only be given if the event is cancelled. If you can no longer attend you are more than welcome to sell your ticket to someone else but please let me know if you do so. No swaps to other events.
And FINALLY:
This walk will be going ahead whatever the weather, unless I deem the conditions dangerous so be ready to embrace the good old British weather! If I do have to cancel the walk for safety reasons, I will suggest one more date for the walk to be rearranged or you can redeem your ticket on one other walk on a date suitable to you.
