Derby West End Churches Heritage Walk
About this Event
We will start at Derby Cathedral (All Saint's Church), and have a leisurely stroll to St John's Church, Mill Street; St Anne's, Whitecross St; St Alkmund's, Kedleston Road and finishing at St Mary's R.C. Church on Bridgegate. The history of Derby's West End Churches goes back to Anglo-Saxon times. This is a great opportunity to have a stroll through the West End of Derby; to learn about its 19th Century history, and have a good look inside its churches. The buildings may have changed over the years but they have served and still serve the local community today. The West End rapidly expanded in the 19th Century with the development of the mills and factories along the line of Markeaton Brook and this resulted in a booming population and a need to build churches for the people.
