We are celebrating Denton Burn Library with a week of activities from Monday 9 February to Saturday 14 February.
About this Event

We have lots of events coming up, they are all listed here but you only need to book for some. If it doesn't say booking required then you don't need to book.


Monday 9 February:

10.15-11.15am: Introduction to Google Lens: Come along and try an exciting new technology, learn what it can do and can’t do. (booking required)


11-11.45am: Just Listen! Adult Story Time:

Listen to a handpicked seasonal tale being read aloud by library staff. Slow down, enjoy the cosy atmosphere and listen to about 20 minutes of reading


2-3pm: Canny Crafters: Have a chat and try a practical craft. Suitable for adults of any skill levels


3-4pm: Introduction to eBooks: Try using BorrowBox to read magazines, newspapers, books or listen to audio books. Bring your own device. (booking required)


3.30-4.30pm Lego Club: A chance for kids to make something too at our regular Monday Lego Club


Thursday 12 February:

10am – 12.45pm: Introduction to Family History Online Drop-In:

Have a try at family history, using Ancestry.com, Find My Past and British Newspaper Archive


1.45-3pm: Illustrated talk – Denton Burn: Milecastle, Mines and Montagus: A history of Denton Burn from the Romans to the present day Courtesy of St. James’ Heritage and Environment Group. (booking required)


10.30am-12.45pm and 1.30-4pm: Local History films: A programme of short films made locally about the history of the west end.

Topics include the industrial history of the West Newcastle riverside, memories of how the area has changed over the past 80 years, stories from the parish graveyard, and the Roman occupation of Newcastle.


Saturday 14 February:

10.15am-12pm: Knight School: Kids can learn about medieval life, how to bow and curtsey and try on some armour. Plus story time, crafts, glitter tattoos and snacks!


12.15-1.30pm: Kids Coding With Lego Education: Come and make a moving Lego model!
