Dementia LINK Open House

The Dementia LINK team is all about Linking Innovation and Knowledge Translation by bringing together researchers, people lived experience, and community members to ensure dementia research is meaningful, accessible, and responsive to real-world needs.

Join us at the UBC Djavad Mowafaghian Centre for Brain Health for a special open house designed for people living with dementia, their families, care partners, and community members. This event is an opportunity to learn about the biomedical side of dementia research in a welcoming, relaxed, and accessible environment. You will hear directly from UBC researchers about the work they are doing to better understand dementia, improve diagnosis, and develop future treatments.

During the event, UBC professors will give short, easy-to-understand presentations about their research, including how dementia affects the brain, how researchers are developing new treatments, and how new tools such as blood tests may help improve diagnosis and care. There will also be opportunities to ask questions, speak with researchers and trainees, and connect with others over lunch. Participants will also have the option to join guided tours of research laboratories to see where dementia research happens and learn more about the tools scientists use.

This event is open to all audiences, and no science background is needed. We especially welcome individuals with lived experience of dementia, as well as their families, friends, and care partners. Your voices and perspectives are essential to shaping the future of dementia research.

Info: In the Rudy North Lecture Theatre, watch presentations by three UBC professors to learn more about biomedical dementia research being conducted at UBC. Following the presentations, there will be lots of time for Q&A with audience members. Presentations include:
Dr. Annie Ciernia – The role of the gut-brain axis in Alzheimer’s disease
Dr. Khaled Abdelrahman – Exploring new treatment options for Alzheimer’s disease
Dr. Cheryl Wellington – Development of blood tests for dementia

Info: Participants will be guided up to the 3rd floor of DMCBH for a sit-down buffet lunch. Chat over lunch with researchers to learn more about their work and ask them all your burning questions.
