More than 57 million people throughout the world suffer with dementia, and another 10 million are diagnosed every year. Dementia is the seventh leading cause of death and one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older people globally.
On top of that, people who care for those with dementia experience a great deal of frustration and concern, as they devote themselves to making sure their loved ones are safe. Many of us know people right here in our community who are living, or caring for a loved one, with dementia.
That’s why St. Francis Xavier Parish is pleased to partner with the Medina County District Library to present a Dementia Friends program on Tuesday, Aug. 12, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Xavier Room, inside St. Francis Xavier School at 612 E. Washington St., Medina.
A Dementia Friend is someone who, through viewing a series of online videos or attending a live interactive session, learns about what it’s like to live with dementia and then turns that understanding into action. From telling friends about the Dementia Friends program to visiting someone who is living with dementia, every action counts.
