Delivering the Sequential Data Handling Cycle in a Cross-Curricular Setting
About this Event
Trosolwg
Datblygwch lythrennedd data dysgwyr drwy ymholi dilys, trawsgwricwlaidd. Mae’r sesiwn ddatblygiad proffesiynol hon yn archwilio’r cylch trin data llawn, o lunio rhagdybiaethau a chasglu data i ddadansoddi, dehongli a chyfleu canfyddiadau. Wedi’i seilio ar egwyddorion y Cwricwlwm i Gymru ac yn cyd-fynd â disgwyliadau Estyn ar gyfer datblygu rhifedd pwrpasol, mae’r sesiwn yn cefnogi ymarferwyr i symud y tu hwnt i weithgareddau lluniadu graffiau arwahanol tuag at ddilyniannau dysgu cydlynus sy’n galluogi dysgwyr i ymateb yn feirniadol i ddata, adnabod tuedd, canfod patrymau a ‘dweud stori’ data gan ddefnyddio iaith fathemategol briodol. Drwy ddefnyddio cyd-destunau ystyrlon ar draws y cwricwlwm, bydd cyfranogwyr yn archwilio sut y gellir gwreiddio trin data er mwyn datblygu sgiliau rhifedd trosglwyddadwy a dyfnhau dealltwriaeth dysgwyr o’r byd o’u cwmpas.
Cynulleidfa Darged
- Arweinwyr mathemateg ysgolion cynradd
- Cydlynwyr rhifedd
- Athrawon sydd â chyfrifoldeb dros gynllunio’r cwricwlwm a datblygu rhifedd.
Nodau’r Sesiwn
Erbyn diwedd y sesiwn, bydd cyfranogwyr yn:
- Deall y cylch trin data llawn a sut mae’r camau’n cysylltu i greu profiadau dysgu cydlynus a blaengar.
- Dewis cyd-destunau ystyrlon a dulliau effeithiol o gasglu data, gan gynnwys adnabod problemau megis tuedd a gorgyffwrdd.
- Archwilio gwahanol fathau o ddata a dewis dulliau priodol o drefnu a chynrychioli data.
- Dylunio dysgu sy’n datblygu gallu dysgwyr i ddehongli data, adnabod patrymau a chyfleu casgliadau’n effeithiol.
- Cynllunio gweithgareddau trin data dilys a thrawsgwricwlaidd sy’n cyd-fynd â disgwyliadau’r Cwricwlwm i Gymru ac yn cefnogi datblygiad sgiliau rhifedd trosglwyddadwy.
Overview
Develop learners’ data literacy through authentic, cross-curricular enquiry. This professional learning session explores the full data handling cycle, from generating hypotheses and collecting data to analysing, interpreting and communicating findings. Grounded in the Curriculum for Wales and aligned with Estyn’s expectations for purposeful numeracy, the session supports practitioners to move beyond isolated graphing activities towards coherent sequences of learning that help learners critically engage with data, recognise bias, identify patterns and ‘tell the story’ of data using appropriate mathematical language. Drawing on meaningful contexts from across the curriculum, participants will explore how data handling can be embedded to develop transferable numeracy skills and deepen learners’ understanding of the world around them.
Target Audience
- Primary school mathematics leaders
- Numeracy coordinators
- Teachers with responsibility for curriculum design and numeracy development.
Session Aims
By the end of the session, participants will:
- Understand the full data handling cycle and how its stages connect to create coherent, progressive learning experiences.
- Select meaningful contexts and effective methods for collecting data, including recognising issues such as bias and overlap.
- Explore different data types and choose appropriate ways to organise and represent data.
- Design learning that develops learners’ ability to interpret data, identify patterns and communicate conclusions effectively.
- Plan authentic, cross-curricular data handling activities that align with Curriculum for Wales expectations and support the development of transferable numeracy skills.
