Delaware Symphonic Winds Sussex County Concert - Windswept Journeys
Schedule

UTC-04:00Location
Cape Henlopen High School | Lewes, DE
The Delaware Symphonic Winds program will begin with an energetic, forward-driving selection titled Catapult by Jay Kennedy. This will be followed by Sheltering Sky by John Mackey - It’s serene and simple presentation is a throwback of sorts –- a nostalgic portrait of time suspended. The second half of the concert features Summer Dances by Brian Balmages. Exciting woodwind flourishes set the stage for the heroic main motive of the piece, stated by the brass section. This theme is woven throughout the piece in contrasting settings, styles, and colors. A beautiful, lyric chamber section gives way to a stately dance presented by the full ensemble. A powerful ending caps this dynamic piece.
In addition to Music Director Michael D. Russo, Delaware Symphonic Winds will welcome three guest conductors from within the ensemble: John Sopkanich, Euphonium, will conduct Dancing In Air by Yo Goto; Terry Alvey, Trumpet, will conduct Cuban Overture by George Gershwin and Danielle Jones, Trombonist, will lead the ensemble in the Side-By-Side experience with Congolese by William Owens and Armed Forces - The Pride of America! arr. by Larry Clark & Greg Gilpin.
