Join Delaware Greenways and Urban Bike Project for a 15-mile Freedom Ride along a portion of the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Byway through New Castle County. Beginning at 9:30AM, riders will follow the Jack A. Markell Trail from Historic New Castle to Wilmington, stopping along the way to hear stories of the courageous individuals who shaped Delaware’s fight for Black liberation and freedom through generations of perseverance, leadership, and cultural contributions across Delaware history. This year’s ride coincides with Wilmington’s Juneteenth celebrations and Historic New Castle’s Separation Day festivities, creating a unique opportunity to experience multiple chapters of American history in a single day. From the struggle for freedom and abolition to Delaware’s path to independence, the trail connects riders to the people, places, and stories that shaped our nation.
