Dekula band consists of five musicians. Vocals: Kababa Nkomba-Gaby (Kongo-Kinshasa), Lead guitar: Dekula Kahanga-Vumbi (Kongo-Kinshasa), Rhythm guitar: Göran Larsson-Göran (Sweden), Bass: Iluba Joseph Ishara-Petit José (Uganda), Drums: Cissokho Lalo-Lalo (Senegal).
Both Gaby and Vumbi left Kongo-Kinshasa (former Zaire) around 1980. For several years they played in big bands in Tanzania, Gaby in Orchestra Safari sound and Wumbi in Orchestra Maquis Origin, before they came to Sweden in different rounds. In Sweden, both have had bands in different constellations. They have composed a large part of their music themselves.
With Dekula band, which they started in 2015, they have become popular in Stockholm. They play regularly at a club called Lilla Wien, but also at other clubs, music festivals and festivals arranged by the City of Stockholm (municipality). More recently they have also performed in Amsterdam, London and Vienna as well as festivals in Finland and Denmark.
Dekula band plays Congolese rumba, soukous, salsa and afro. Dekula Band’s new album ”Slavery is crime" "Coltan Sounds” will be out this summer on digital and vinyl! Karl Jonas Winqvist, producer and running the label Sing a song fighter who is releasing Dekula Band’s music, will bring the album to the concert.
The band keep an important musical heritage alive. Congolese rumba was inscribed on the cultural heritage list 2021. Visitors of Africans origin can often sing along to their childhood songs and feel "at home";. Some of their songs are still played on the radio in several central African countries.
