Lent in the Episcopal tradition calls us to self-examination, repentance, prayer, and renewed attention to God’s presence in our daily lives. Over four evenings, we will explore ancient spiritual practices that have shaped Anglican prayer and devotion across centuries. Drawing on contemplative, monastic, and embodied traditions, these sessions offer both theological grounding and practical experience. Whether you are seeking new ways to pray or a deeper rhythm for an already-established practice, these evenings invite you into a more intentional and grace-filled Lenten journey.
Evening 3 (Sunday, March 15): “Keeping a Holy Benedictine Lent Anytime” with Dana Hengst and Chris Stanek
Benedictine spirituality emphasizes balance, stability, and faithfulness in ordinary life-values that resonate strongly with Anglican sensibilities. This evening explores the Benedictine influence on Anglicanism and how the wisdom of the Rule of St. Benedict can shape a "holy Lent" not only as a season, but as a way of life. In his Rule Benedict says, "The life of a monk ought to be a continuous Lent," but he recognizes that " few, however, have this strength for this (RB 49:1-2). Coming together as a community, participants will consider how Benedictine practices can support a sustainable and grace-filled rhythm of Christian living year round.
