About this Event

Please join the CIC-Halifax and the American Chamber of Commerce in Atlantic Canada for an Evening Talk and Reaction Panel on the U.S. Election on October 21. It will feature leading Canadian and American experts on Canada-U.S. relations, including:

  • Dr. Christopher Sands, Director of the Canada Institute at the Wilson Center, Washington, D.C.
  • Dr. Asa McKercher, St. Francis Xavier University
  • Dr. Leah Sarson and Dr. Brian Bow, Dalhousie University

The evening will include a lead presentation by Dr. Sands, followed by a reaction panel and a Q&A session. A buffet dinner reception, proudly sponsored by Burnside Law Group, will include finger foods and a cash bar.

Keynote Speaker:

Dr. Christopher Sands
Dr. Sands is the Director of the Wilson Center’s Canada Institute, a specialist on Canada, U.S.-Canadian relations, and North American economic integration. He is the co-host of the CAN-USA Street Podcast and a regular panellist on the Wilson Center’s Americas 360 Podcast. His most recent book, Canada and the United States: Differences That Count, is co-edited with David M. Thomas. Dr. Sands is a Lecturer at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies and directs the Hopkins Center for Canadian Studies. Although frequently mistaken for a Canadian, he was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan.

Reaction Panel:
Dr. Asa McKercher, Steven K. Hudson Research Chair in Canada-US Relations and Associate Professor in Public Policy and Governance at St. Francis Xavier University. Dr. McKercher is the editor of the International Journal and a well-known specialist in Canada-US relations, Canadian foreign policy, US foreign policy, and politics and culture in North America.
Dr. Leah Sarson, Associate Professor of International Relations in the Department of Political Science and Director of the Dalhousie Centre for the Study of Security and Development. Her research focuses on Indigenous global politics, Canadian foreign policy, Arctic studies, and gender. She is also editor-in-chief of the International Journal with Dr. Asa McKercher.
