A deep-dive into why Spain's most rugged terroir is producing some of its most fascinating wines.
About this Event

Some of the world's most compelling wine comes from land that looks, frankly, inhospitable. Granite outcrops. Punishing altitude. Vines that have to fight for everything they get.

We're pulling from four corners of Spain to explore some of the harshest, highest, most unforgiving pockets—where old vines dig into granite and altitude does the work that easier terrain never could. Using Garnacha as our guide, we'll explore the results—not the soft, jammy Garnacha most people think they know. Instead, what we'll taste is structured, mineral, and alive.

On the table:

  • Granito de Gredos — Sierra de Gredos, granite soils, the kind of Garnacha that reads more Burgundy
  • Cuevas de Arom (Calatayud, Aragón) — old-vine, high-elevation, structured and savory
  • Rico Nuevo — from Cebreros in the Sierra de Gredos, another look at what this region's altitude and granite bring out in the glass
  • The Wildcard — the sparkling red nobody sees coming

We'll taste through style, soil, and altitude, and talk about why these rugged, unsung regions continue to be the most compelling in Spain.

This is a one-hour class held at Wild Child at 30 Bow Street. This class will be taught by our friend Matt Rose of Areni Selections.
