Deeds Not Words: An afternoon with Helen Pankhurst
About this Event
As the musical Sylvia comes to Canterbury, join Dr Helen Pankhurst CBE for a talk and Q&A exploring the Pankhurst legacy and the continuing struggle for women’s equality.
A women’s rights campaigner, author and great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst and granddaughter of Sylvia, Helen brings both a personal and a campaigning perspective to this remarkable family story.
Drawing on Sylvia’s life and her own work, Helen will explore the connections between the fight for the vote and wider struggles for social justice. What can Sylvia’s courage and convictions teach us today? How far have women’s rights progressed- and what still needs to change?
There will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions, share reflections and join the discussion. Whether you are seeing Sylvia, interested in the suffrage movement or curious about the future of women’s rights, you are warmly welcome.
Consider wearing a touch of suffragette spirit!
We'd love you to wear purple, white or green - or a combination of all 3!
This event is in support of Centenary Action, the coalition campaigning for a gender-equal and more diverse Parliament.
