Decolonizing Mental Health:Healing in Resistance:We Have Been Here Before!

We cordially invite you to join our Decolonizing Mental Health series, a community space where we come together to reflect on today’s challenging socio-political climate through a historical lens. Together, we envision exploring what systems and patterns have persisted over time, how they continue to impact our communities, and the many ways people have organized, resisted, healed, and cared for one another across generations. This coming together is rooted in collective healing and shared learning. We will exchange knowledge, stories, and wisdom as we reflect on colonialism, displacement, oppression, and the resilience of our communities. The offerings will include an overview of the history of imperialist oppression in this country, the movements that have fought against and continue to fight against them, a panel discussion, breakout group discussions, and experiential workshops.

Join Wellness in Action from the Center for Empowering Refugees and Immigrants, New Light Wellness, and the African Communities Program at Partnerships for Trauma Recovery in an in-person workshop on Saturday, May 9th, 2026, from 10 am-2 pm Pacific Time, at CERI’s location in Oakland, 554 Grand Ave, Oakland, CA.

We envision co-creating a humble and welcoming space where people can lean to one another, build connections, and imagine pathways toward healing and liberation together.
