Decisions at Fredericksburg

Join the Central Virginia Battlefields Trust and historian Chris Mackowski for an afternoon discussion and exploration into the critical decisions that were involved in the Battle of Fredericksburg. This program, based on Mackowski’s book “Decisions at Fredericksburg: The Fourteen Critical Decisions that Defined the Battle,” will explore what a critical decision is and how they impacted this December 1862 battle.
We’ll begin with a presentation at the CVBT office to provide an overview of the Battle of Fredericksburg and define what a critical decision is. Whether you are a long-time student of the Civil War or just have a budding interest in local history, you will come away with a better understanding of the Battle of Fredericksburg and its significant place in the conflict.
Following the indoor session, we will car caravan to the south end of the Fredericksburg battlefield where Chris will lead a tour, walking the ground and seeing the landscape where some of the battle’s critical decisions occurred. Attendees will receive a copy of "Decisions at Fredericksburg: The Fourteen Critical Decisions that Defined the Battle" with their paid registration. Books will be passed out at the event.
Moderate walking on level ground will be required for the tour portion of the program. We suggest wearing comfortable walking shoes and keeping an eye on the day’s forecast to dress appropriately.
