At a death cafe people drink coffee or tea, eat cake and discuss death, dying, life and living. The aim is to make the most of our finite lives. You could say it's the only place where "dying" is the life of the party. In a culture that spends billions of dollars trying to ignore, hide or "cure" aging and death, a Death Cafe is a radical act of honesty. It's a space where people drop the social mask and talk about the one thing we all have in common but never mention. A death cafe is not a bereavement or grief support group and is not recommended for those who are actively grieving. It’s an opportunity to respectfully discuss death as a natural part of our lives.
