“Dear inner child, what you have to say matters”
• How can we support people whose voices have been silenced or restricted through trauma?
• Would you like to explore multi-sensory ways of supporting the inner child to feel safe speaking and expressing themselves clearly?
• Would you like to incorporate inner child work to support explorers in developing their voices as comfortably, safely, and clearly as possible?
• Are you ready to engage your inner child as one of your co-therapists and consultants in your professional practice and life?
Aimed at: Multi-disciplinary practitioners who want to practice multi-sensory inner child work and discover ways to integrate it into their practice. Since the workshop is experiential, it also aims to support the personal and professional growth of the practitioners. The professionals include psychotherapists, family therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors, guidance teachers, social workers, child and youth care workers, support workers and others. Practitioners from various therapeutic modalities, including gestalt, systemic, humanistic and expressive arts therapists, will feel right at home in this workshop. Other practitioners who would like to open up to the possibility of integrating this way of working in their skill set might want to join as well. Those of you who attended one of the previous Inner Child workshops will notice new interventions being integrated into this workshop.
Interventions we will be exploring:
• Multi-sensory techniques to help us co-create this embodied journey of connecting with our inner child.
• Embodied work with our inner child.
• Pacing the work according to where the client is in the process.
• Practice how to give voice to our inner child and integrate their voice/in our daily lives.
• Engaging our inner child as our co-therapist or one of our consultants in our work.
• How to integrate inner-child work when working with couples and families.
A Reflection: One of my core beliefs as a therapeutic practitioner is that we can only guide our fellow travellers to paths that we are familiar with and comfortable with. To explore the possibility of inner child work with our clients, we want to honour our inner child as practitioners. S/he has so many resources that are ready to be unleashed and activated. S/he has a voice waiting for your comfort, safety, and interest in speaking up. Many adult explorers come to us with a restricted or silenced voice. We might have grown up in environments where it was not safe to speak up, and therefore, we learned to love through silencing ourselves. In honour of all those who could not speak up or were punished for speaking up, we want to explore therapeutic ways to support the healing of a silenced voice through inner child work.
Giving voice to my inner child and having her inspire me to express my voice during my practice hours and other significant moments in my life has been so inspiring and supportive. That is why I believe so much in this way of working. It brings me so much joy to give voice to our inner child in this workshop and create a space for us to keep integrating our inner child voice while we support others.
My inner child and I look forward to welcoming you and your inner child to this workshop. Let us celebrate our inner child’s voice!
I wish you well, and thank you for your service of giving voice!
