Dead Media: Film Premiere

DEAD MEDIA is a new horror film written and directed by Joseph Scrimshaw. Join us for the film's debut in the city where it was filmed--Minneapolis, Minnesota.

WHAT:

DEAD MEDIA is the story of a troubled young woman, her lonely Gen X uncle, a haunted DVD, and a movie night that won't die. A horror film that doesn’t just ask if the characters will live, but why they want to survive.

A creepy gothic horror film that combines the technology-based folk horror of The Ring, the character drama and self-awareness of the Scream franchise, the dark comedy of Ready Or Not, and the hypnotic allure of Bela Lugosi’s eyes and fingers in Dracula.

The premiere screening of DEAD MEDIA will feature pre-film entertainment from writer/director Joseph Scrimshaw, a post-film Q&A, a photo op in the lobby, a custom Dead Media-themed cocktail.

WHO:

The film stars (Shameless, The Rookie, I Love You Phillip Morris), (The Fabelmans, Oppenheimer, The Venture Bros), (Good Sport), and (Fargo) with a supporting cameo from Bill Corbett (RiffTrax, MST3K).

The film also features luminaries of the Minnesota film and theater community Jessica Fenton, John Middleton, Antonio Teodoro, Natalie Rae Wass, Jacob Mullan, Rob Ward, Gael Palen, Audrey Parker, Andrew Stecker, Sulia Rose Altenberg, Rachel Buhman, Shanan Custer, Jim Robinson, Tim Uren, Joseph Scrimshaw, Sara Scrimshaw, and Nissa Nordland.

The film’s cinematographer is (Shelter in Solitude, Satanic Hispanics, The Making of Happier Than Ever starring Billie Eilish). The score is by Tony Thaxton, drummer for . The film was co-produced by Joseph and (Attack of the Show) with guidance from executive producer, (Mayhem, Suitable Flesh.)

MORE ABOUT WRITER/DIRECTOR JOSEPH SCRIMSHAW:

Joseph started his career doing theater and comedy in the Twin Cities. Highlights include multiple top ten best-selling Fringe shows (Adventures in Mating, An Inconvenient Squirrel, The Worst Show in the Fringe), long runs of late night shows at The Bryant-Lake Bowl, and portraying the iconic Dudley Riggs in Dudley: Rigged for Laughter co-presented by The History Theater and the Brave New Workshop.

In 2014, Joseph moved to Los Angeles where he wrote for the Adult Swim animated comedy, Tigtone. Joseph also performed stand-up and traveled the festival circuit, appearing at SF SketchFest, NerdMelt Showroom, Dragon Con, the JoCo Cruise, and more. Joseph also hosted the hit comedy podcast Obsessed and co-hosts the popular Star Wars podcast, ForceCenter.

After a few years of pitching movies and TV shows to networks and streamers, Joseph returned to his producing roots to make his own films. His short horror film The Nightmare Adorable played over 20 festivals and his experimental film, The Narrator starring Phil LaMarr won the Silver Award for Best Experimental Short at the Portland Festival of Cinema, Animation & Technology.

Dead Media is Joseph’s first (but not last) feature film.
