Please note: This training focuses on understanding risk within the context of school settings and supports working within pre-existing Victorian DE policies and procedures.

Suicide Risk Continuum Training (SRCT) helps school staff better understand and respond to self-harm and suicidal behaviours in secondary school students. The training also provides insights into identifying vulnerabilities and supporting students in line with existing Victorian DE policies and procedures.

SRCT is all about:

  • Exploring a common language and understanding around features of risk and protection in secondary school students.
  • Assisting wellbeing staff members to assess situational risk and determine what support might be needed.
  • Supporting school staff in developing a framework around identifying vulnerabilities and the school’s role in managing risk.
  • Supporting wellbeing staff to work within their scope and boundaries.
  • Providing a shared understanding of how to engage with and refer to external services when necessary.
  • Identifying and supporting the emergence of risk in secondary students and promoting mental health literacy.

During the training, you’ll:

  • Get a deeper understanding mental health and mental health difficulties in secondary students.
  • Dive into risk and how to respond to risk situations to support the student.
  • Reflect on responding to self-harm and suicidal ideation in secondary students.
  • Planning a response to risk and engaging with external services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Use case studies and activities to apply existing experience and knowledge alongside the training materials.
