De la Sierra Madre al Universo Boreal: An evening with Mexican-Canadian writers

The recent increase in Mexican migration to Canada has led to a rise in Mexican-Canadian literary works. De la Sierra Madre al Universo Boreal is a new bi-lingual (Spanish & English) anthology that showcases the uniqueness of Mexican-Canadian writing, and reflects the rich diversity of the Mexican diaspora in Canada.
The works in this anthology span the majestic Sierra Madre mountains of Mexico to the vast boreal forests of Canada, capturing stories that reflect resilience, memories, and the vibrant interaction between two homelands.
Join us at the Central Library for a celebration of Mexican-Canadian writing, featuring anthology editor Antolina Ortiz Moore, and contributors Mara Álvarez, Óscar Yahir Aguilar, Romero Salaspuente.

Antolina Ortiz Moore has published 6 novels and won numerous literary awards. Born in Mexico City, she also lived in Coatepec, Veracruz, where she founded Morfo Educación Libre and the Centro Ecológico y Cultural Liquidámbar A.C., two initiatives dedicated to promoting ecological and cultural awareness. She currently lives in Montreal with her family.
Mara Alvarez is a writer, audiovisual producer, and cultural programmer who lives in Vancouver. Her work explores themes of migrant identity, land, and gender violence through poetry, photography, and moving images.
Romero Salespuente is a phycology researcher, scientific diver, writer, filmmaker, and businessman. His work combines the ecological study of macroalgae with the development of sustainable bioproducts in Haida Gwaii, B.C.
Yahir Aguilar is a poet, bookseller, and cultural promoter from Mexico City who lives in Vancouver. His work has appeared in numerous poetry collections, including Caminos Inciertos, Un disparo en la nuca para terminar el verso, and Arte y Literatura Hispanocanadiense 2022 y 2023.

This event is presented in partnership with the Embassy of Mexico in Canada, the Consulate General of Mexico in Vancouver, and the Vancouver Latin American Cultural Centre (VLACC).
