DDC Presents Southern Gothic: Hues of Haint Blue
Schedule
Sun, 19 Oct, 2025 at 06:30 pm
UTC-05:00Location
Gunn-Bellenger House | Gadsden, AL
An original neo-classical dance production based on Appalachian culture and Southern Gothic Literature - the DDC Upper School will perform on Sunday, October 19th at 6:30pm outside the Bellenger House in ghostly light.
Guests are invited to bring lawn chairs, picnic blankets, and children are more than welcome to wear their Halloween costumes!
This year’s performance is based on the Southern tradition rooted in Gullah culture of “haint blue” painted porches to ward off “haints” from the home. Blue is a very prominent color in traditional Southern motifs - and it’s rooted in the belief that blue represents the sky or water, where evil cannot pass. Haint blue represents the good and the protection against any evil. The word haint is derived from the english word “haunt” and represents an unwanted spirit.
This blue shade has been passed down for generations and has become an icon of the South.
The performance will be a fundraiser for DDC programs! Tickets are on sale now! https://culturalarts.com/boxoffice/
