Take your dialogue from explanatory to engaging
About this Event

Have you struggled with writing strong dialogue for your characters? Dialogue that has energy and enhances the reader's understanding of the character's motivation? Then this workshop is for you.

In this two-hour session, we'll use writing prompts and discussion to explore:

  • Punctuation conventions (and how to break them!)
  • Integrating effective action beats
  • Ways to improve your use of dialogue as a tool to move your story forward

Join us to learn how to enhance this part of your craft.

This workshop is led by DC Writers' Salon member, Laura Plevin. Laura is a writer and teacher, offering literacy support and creative writing workshops for kids. She is currently working on a fantasy novel inspired by Scottish mythology and also enjoys writing poetry and short stories.

Based in Dupont, the DC Writers' Salon is a studio and community for writers. The Salon helps us make space and time for what we love to do: write. But more than that, it invites us to engage with the otherwise solo, and sometimes grueling, process of writing in a way that's more connected and accountable. Learn more at DCWritersSalon.com.
