Performanci "People" iedvesmojusi amerikāņu aktiera un rakstnieka Spoldinga Greja (Spalding Gray, 1941–2004) monoizrāde “A Personal History of American Theatre” (“Personīga amerikāņu teātra vēsture”, 1980).

The Latvian Centre for Contemporary Art (LCCA) invites you to the launch of New York–based artist and writer Tyler Coburn’s book "Some Monologues" on January 28 at 6:30 PM at the LCCA Library, Alberta Street 13, Riga (7th floor)!
🔴 About the book
Working at the nexus of performance, art writing, and fiction, Tyler Coburn creates monologues that explore how the “I” is marked in speech.
His latest book, "Some Monologues", collects scripts of Coburn’s work over the past fifteen years. The book is accompanied by texts from eleven artists, writers, curators, and scholars. Written in theoretical, poetic, and autobiographical registers, these contributions offer new perspectives on the monologue as an expansive and relational form.
🔴 Book launch, performance, and conversation
At the event, Coburn will perform the monologue "People", focusing on the people involved in the making of the book—an academic he interviewed for a project, an amorous attendee of one of his monologues, his collaborator Susan Bennett (the original voice actress of Siri), a data center employee whom he insulted, and others.
The performance "People" is inspired by the one-person show "A Personal History of American Theatre" (1980) by American actor and writer Spalding Gray (1941–2004).
🗣️ After the performance, Coburn will be joined in conversation by LCCA curator Andra Silapētere.
The book will also be available for purchase during the event (cashless payments only).
