Create nautical crafts from reclaimed materials while reflecting on our connection to the sea and the lives of seafarers worldwide.
About this Event

Join us for a reflective and creative sustainable sewing session as we mark the Day of the Seafarer, coming together to explore our shared connection to the sea, while recognising and honouring the lives of those who work, travel, and find their livelihoods upon it.

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll be creating nautical-themed objects inspired by the rhythms, textures, and colours of the ocean - think stitched decorations, practical items, and small keepsakes that capture the spirit of life at sea - using surplus and reclaimed materials to ensure sustainability remains at the heart of our making.

As we sew and craft together in a relaxed and welcoming space, there will be gentle opportunities to reflect on the importance of seafarers in our everyday lives, from the global movement of goods to the human stories carried across oceans, grounding our creativity in both appreciation and awareness.

Participants are welcome to bring along their own sewing machines if they wish, as well as any spare fabrics or materials that might lend themselves to a nautical theme, although materials and guidance will be available for all skill levels.

This session is open to beginners and experienced makers alike, offering a calm and supportive environment where creativity, conversation, and connection can quietly unfold.

Disclaimer & Safety Notice

Our sustainable textile workshops involve the use of equipment and materials that may present hazards, including but not limited to:

  • Sharp objects: scissors, needles, and pins
  • Heat sources: irons, glue guns, and other heated equipment

Use of Equipment

Participants use all equipment and materials at their own risk. We will provide clear guidance on safe use and, where reasonable and appropriate, we will make reasonable adjustments to enable participation. However, due to the inherent nature of textile work, reasonable adjustments may affect the final quality or appearance of your finished item.

Right to Withdraw from Activity

We reserve the right to request that a participant ceases use of equipment if we reasonably determine that they are unable to safely operate the tools, or if no reasonable adjustments can be implemented to enable safe participation. This decision is made in the interests of health and safety for all participants. We will not require participation in activities where suitable reasonable adjustments are refused by the participant.

Carers and Support

Carers and support persons are welcome to attend our workshops. If you plan to attend with a carer, or if you require any reasonable adjustments due to disability, health conditions, or other access requirements, we ask that you contact us before booking to discuss your needs. This allows us to plan appropriately and ensure we can provide the support you require.
