About this Event
Dawn Chorus Walk - Birds of Stonebow
Join us for a relaxed morning stroll at Stonebow Washlands Off Mount Grace Road, Loughborough on April 18, 2026. We will immerse ourselves in beautiful bird song as day breaks and experience the magic of birdsong at the peak of spring breeding.
Perfect for nature lovers and early risers alike. The walk starts 30 minutes before sunrise (5am) and will last about 90 minutes as we walk around and stop for tranquil breaks. Bring comfy shoes, clothing to match the weather report, binoculars if you have them, camera and curiosity!
Please note that parking here is very limited. It is a residential area and no car park. There is unrestricted parking on Mount Grace Road, although we would prefer to avoid an excess of cars in the area, therefore if using the car is unavoidable, please park respectfully towards local residents.
As the sun rises the urban landscape comes alive with birdsong and calls - blackbirds, robins, wrens, song thrush, nuthatch and tit's galore! If we are lucky we may also hear migrants adding an exotic flavour to the British ensemble. Chiff chaf, blackcap, garden warbler and who knows what else might drop in for us - a nightingale?
Let the sounds of spring guide you through this beautiful local haven and start your morning feeling refeshed, energised and connected with the natural world.
Children more than welcome if you can get them out of bed! Ideally, they need to be 7+
Charnwood Bird Ringing Club will lead the walk and offer their expertise, so please bring your questions. This is a free event although the Charnwood Bird Ringers accept donations which helps them acheive their important bird-ringing and data collection work.
