Welcome to the Davis Thompson Foundation European Symposium 2026!

Come join us for two days filled with exciting discussions, networking opportunities, and insightful presentations from bone, joint and neuropathology experts covering large and small animals. This symposium is a great chance to expand your knowledge and connect with like-minded pathologists and trainees.

Our engaging experts are Drs Linden Craig (University of Tennessee) and Andrew Miller (Cornell University). A range of lesions and processes will be covered including key gross and histopathologic features, diagnostic tests and use of ancillary techniques such as IHC and ISH for tumour diagnosis.

Info: This session will examine some tissues and lesions that resemble bone and compare them to true bone. Terms specific to bone (such as woven, lamellar, cancellous) will be defined.

Info: Primary bone tumors such as osteoma, osteosarcoma, osteochondroma, multilobular tumor of bone as well as metastatic and marrow tumors will be discussed.

Info: Metaphyseal osteopathy will be compared to the lesions of canine distemper virus. Bone and joint lesions caused by viruses, bacteria, fungi, and protozoa will be discussed.

Info: Degenerative joint disease of the appendicular and axial skeleton will be discussed. Traumatic and pathologic fractures will be compared.

Info: Synovial tumours and their immunohistochemical characteristics will be discussed. Periarticular tumours including feline plasma cell tumours and periarticular fibromas in dogs will be discussed.

Info: Osteogenesis imperfecta, rickets and fibrous osteodystrophy will be discussed.

Info: This session will review CNS neoplasia and focus on when to use IHC to refine the diagnosis

Info: This session will focus on the different types of PNS neoplasia and how IHC does and does not help with the diagnosis.

Info: This session will focus on neoplasms encountered in a standard diagnostic pathology service and how IHC can refine the diagnosis. This session will end with a quiz that reviews concepts discussed in the workshop.
