Historian David Reekie reveals one of Canterbury’s greatest hidden secrets, Old Park. Just a mile outside the city walls, it is a haven for nightingales, turtle doves and a host of insects, butterflies and moths.
In this talk, David illuminates Old Park’s greatest mysteries, tracing a unique history dating from the Palaeolithic through the Iron Age, Medieval and Tudor periods and on to the Napoleonic Wars and World War Two.
Come and learn about one of the most important historic landscapes in England and why this precious place must be protected and conserved for the people of Canterbury.
David Reekie lives in Fordwich and is a local historian and Chair of Canterbury Ramblers, renowned locally for his fascinating talks and first-hand historical research. He has recently published a walking guide and history of Old Park which will be on sale at the event.
Books will be sold at the talks and online by The Bookshop at Canterbury Christ Church University.
Buy tickets for two talk events or more and receive a 5% discount on the face value of each ticket.
