Glastonbury's Assembly Rooms will host a unique two-night audiovisual weekend
on Friday 3rd and Saturday 4th July, bringing together local artists and
internationally recognised musicians for an immersive exploration of sound, film
and visual art.
Friday night features David Harrow and Youth, centred around Harrow’s
performance of Terry Riley’s minimalist masterpiece In C, alongside curated
visuals.
The following evening sees Fractals in Space transform the venue into an
immersive deep-space environment of fractal visuals, psychedelic dub,
downtempo grooves and experimental sound, featuring a rare live performance
from Lords of Misrule alongside Gazillion Chillion, Dawn of Reality, Old Nic and MRez.
What began as two separate events has evolved into a collaborative weekend, with
shared creative ideas, visual production and cross-pollination between artists and
audiences.
Both events take place at the Assembly Rooms, Glastonbury, offering a rare
opportunity to experience two very different but complementary journeys through
sound and vision across a single weekend.
David Harrow is a keyboardist, a composer, a producer, a writer of global hits, a
collaborator with an array of the most respected names in international electronic
music, an innovator many times over, and has been present at a startling number
of crux moments in subcultural history.
But before and after all that, he is a conjurer with sound, in love with the
immediacy and sense of possibility that electronic devices have to offer.
From the
backing he provided for post-punk poet Anne Clarke as an untutored youth –
which went on to ignite clubs from Dusseldorf to Detroit – through working closely
with On-U Sound, Andrew Weatherall, The Orb, Billie Rae Martin and so many
more on to his endlessly prolific later solo albums made in LA, that’s always been
the start and end of it.
So with his unique performance of Terry Riley’s ‘In C’. Harrow steers and coaxes
his modular synths to dance around each other generating the parts of Riley’s
classic of minimalism – true to the original’s spirit and vision, but also revelling in
the spontaneous generation of beauty. It’ll stimulate the intellect, it’s a profound
experience but above all it is about the joy of sound in space
