Craig Thatcher is a versatile, award-winning guitarist, band leader, and international clinician/ambassador for C. F. Martin & Co., Inc. He leads the Craig Thatcher Band, known for their energetic performances across the U.S. and abroad. Craig has performed with and opened for many music legends and leads popular tribute shows for Eric Clapton, Tom Petty, The Allman Brothers, Jimi Hendrix, and others. He also hosts PBS's Behind The Guitar TV Series. Currently, Craig travels worldwide with CF Martin IV, sharing company history and showcasing new models. With a career spanning decades, Craig is recognized for his mastery of rock, blues, and acoustic fingerstyle guitar and has been performing at Godfrey Daniels since the 1980's. Tonight's show features Cliff Starkey/keyboards and vocals; Chico Huff/bass guitar and Billy Wear/drums.
Craig Thatcher is a highly accomplished guitarist, band leader, and international clinician and ambassador for C. F. Martin & Co., known for his versatility across rock, blues, jazz, and finger-style acoustic guitar. As the leader of the Craig Thatcher Band, he has been entertaining audiences since 1992, performing throughout Pennsylvania's Lehigh Valley region and abroad. Craig also leads tribute shows honoring music legends like Eric Clapton, Jimi Hendrix, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Allman Brothers and more.
A longtime ambassador for Martin Guitar, Craig has performed at events for the company since 2004 and has been traveling globally since 2009, most often alongside Chris Martin IV, to share the rich history of Martin Guitar and showcase new models. His career has seen him perform with and open for countless iconic musicians such as Jorma Kaukonen, GE Smith, Bill Kirchen, Lenny Kaye, & Laurence Juber. He has performed in one capacity or another in nearly every U.S. state and over 40 countries. In 2024, Martin Guitar released a, “Craig Thatcher Signature” Model Guitar which sold out very quickly.
Craig is also the creator and host and originator of the PBS show, Behind the Guitar, where he interviews world-class guitarists such as Roger McGuinn, Hot Tuna, Chris Hillman, Laurence Juber, in front of live audiences. His musical expertise and passion have earned him numerous local and regional awards throughout his career.
Craig began playing guitar in 1964, after seeing the Beatles on Ed Sullivan. By 1966 he was in his first band and by 1968, the band started getting paid for performances. Though Craig's early influences were Beatles, Rolling Stones, the Animals, Herman's Hermits, the Yardbirds and many other pop acts, once he heard Eric Clapton and then, Jimi Hendrix, his focus changed to a much heavier rock style of lead guitar, based in the blues.
CTB's music spans many musical genres, including folk, funk/jazz, blues and rock. Craig also has become a strong solo acoustic guitarist, focusing primarily on fingerstyle country blues.
