Dave Scanlon writes austere songs and continues a series of "counting" compositions focusing on intonation and measurement. He has released music on Ramp Local, New Amsterdam Records, Tzadik Records, Hometapes, Clean Feed Records, New Atlantis Records, and Whatever's Clever. Scanlon has performed with Jason Ajemian, David Behrman, Chuck Bettis, Hayashi Eiichi, Alvin Lucier, Jessica Pavone, Yamamoto Seiichi (of The Boredoms), Alena Spanger, Otomo Yoshihide, and numerous others. Scanlon will be performing selections from Greenland Shark, an album written about the North Atlantic fish, Somniosus microcephalus. In addition, he will perform "Monochromatic Pool", a piece written for guitar and narrator about the exoplanet Proxima Centauri B.
Brett Naucke is an American experimental composer and visual artist from Chicago, IL currently based in Asheville, NC. Naucke's sonic output has been primarily focused on marrying an ever-evolving practice of synthesis with conceptual narratives. His most recent recordings have been released by a wide variety of acclaimed labels such as American Dreams, Spectrum Spools, Umor Rex, L.I.E.S, and Hausu Mountain in addition to many others since 2010. Beyond live performance, Naucke has provided the original scores for several films, sound design for interactive gaming, and presented many works for multi-channel audio and video installations. Additionally, Naucke ran the Catholic Tapes record label from 2007-to 2015, releasing just shy of 100 documents of American underground electronic music focussed heavily on Chicago-based artists and a visual vehicle for Naucke's photographs and visual art. He was a member of the legendary Avant-art collective ONO from 2012-2017, and has been a collaborator both live and in recording for acclaimed acts such as Ryley Walker, Bitchin Bajas, Tortoise, Pulse Emitter, Cloud Nothings, TALSounds, Bill MacKay, Matchesse.
Natalie Chami (TALsounds) is a Canadian-born Lebanese American musician and educator. Known for her work in drone, ambient, and improvisational music, she has cultivated a distinguished solo career over the past 15 years, crafting a distinctive blend of personal and transporting music. Her compositions seamlessly integrate synth work, operatic vocals, and meticulous atmosphere crafting. Chami has released albums on various labels, toured internationally, and earned acclaim for her significant contributions to the avant-garde electronic scene including publications such as Pitchfork, The Fader, The Washington Post, and The Chicago Tribune. Her latest release, Shift (2023), is a departure from her signature warm analog synth sound, with exclusive use of hardware digital and FM synthesizers, embracing a crisp, icy tonal palette and a minimalist approach. Notably, Chami collaborated with fellow Southwest Asian and North African (SWANA) women in the production, art, and photography for the album.
Max Hamel is a craftsperson, musician, artist and instrument maker with diverse practices ranging from professional fine violin luthiery to handmade live electronics. Their performance work builds upon a foundation of circuit bending, feedback, magic, touch and chaos, delighting in subtlety, pliable gesture and flippant ambiguity. Raised in the DC metro area, they recently moved back to Washington, DC from New Haven, CT where they lived since 2019, working as a luthier and performing in basements, bookstores, galleries, warehouses, crypts and libraries throughout the northeast United States. They perform and release solo work under the names Max Hamel, HSFB, and Head Separating from Body, and play in groups including Rear Window (with Zach Rowden and Rex Morris), Cut Nails (with Rex Morris) and Chicken Flag (with Matt Wellins).
