Entry for regular club nights is free, we pay our guests by way of a *CASH* collection. Whilst we understand that some simply haven't the means to make a contribution and absolutely DO NOT wish to exclude them, we expect those who can to make as generous a donation as they are able in recognition of our guest's work.
*PLEASE CHECK FOR UPDATES BEFORE SETTING OUT*
Life is full of unexpected ups and downs, illness, weather and other unexpected things can spoil the best made plans. We may sometimes have to change our guest at short notice, or even cancel an evening altogether. To avoid disappointment please re-visit the relevant night's event for updates *BEFORE* setting out.
*DAVE MILLS
Dave is quite well known around the folk clubs in the north of Sheffield for his laid back delivery and the choice of music he tends to play. He enjoys singing songs from the “American Standards” of the 20’s to 50’s as sung by the likes of Billie Holliday, Frank Sinatra, Ella Fitzgerald, Nat King Cole and has himself been accused of being a bit of a crooner. Having no orchestra to back him does limit the content but he’s not bad on his guitar, trying his best with mainly fingerstyle arrangements to give a jazzy accompaniment. As well as the Standards he has lots of songs in his Filofaxes which could come from the pens of James Taylor, Beatles, Paul Simon, McTell, Lightfoot. There are some traditional songs and maybe Dylan but he may miss out verses if they go on for too long.
Bluegrass music is one of his loves, and one day he will be bringing his banjo but not this week his banjo artistry and vocal twangs and drawls need refining before bringing out to the public, maybe next time?
One day he may write a song and would like to record a simple CD but thinks these are going to have to be retirement projects.
Doors open 8:15, *PLEASE WAIT DOWNSTAIRS UNTIL CALLED*
Singers and musicians of all standards and styles are welcome to come along and do a short floor spot.
Free entry: Collection & raffle for guest.
