Less than ten hours after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, the Japanese invasion of the Philippines began. It catalyzed the formation of the US Army’s First Filipino Battalion to fight for their motherland.
DAUNTLESS is an untold story of Filipinos in the US Army who were chosen from the 1st and 2nd Filipino Infantry Regiments in California and brought to Australia. General MacArthur mandated the men, their submarine missions, and training camp outside Beaudesert as top-secret. Their submarines were fitted and departed from Brisbane, Darwin, and Fremantle from December 1943 to December 1944. They were like buses plying the sea routes between Australia and the Philippines. The mission men working with the resistance in the Philippines significantly contributed to the successful return of the Allies to the islands.
