DATE CHANGE this event will happen Oct 22, at 7pm.
The Trial of Galileo Galilei, in Rome, 1633, was a crucial moment when Empiricism, Skepticism, and Rationalism all came together in full view of the public with astonishing historical implications; that is the birth of Science and the collapse of Dogmatism.
(But, hey, you already knew that, right?)
There's been a lot of revisionism about the trial, a few recent authors claiming it had nothing to do with Copernicus and his theory. One claims it was ego, another says it was about the theory of the atoms, and another says it was about Reason. Hmmm,...
Sounds like rubbish, but is it?
Rather than read three books and find out about these interesting opinions, my claim is that the original sources will give us more insight. So, here's a link chock full of original documents and accounts, all handily translated to English:

I'm thinking of doing this as another play. At this point, I don't have a script and the date is open to change. But, we'll see how this all comes together. Your feedback is welcome.
Here's an online version of Galileo's Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems (1632) which got him in hot water with Pope Urban VIII
