Data Sciences Competition

The School of Mathematical and Computer Sciences at Heriot-Watt University Dubai invites you to participate in the Data Science Competition. This is your chance to shine in the realm of data science. Whether you're a beginner or a budding expert, this is the perfect platform to showcase your talents in critical thinking, statistical reasoning, and analytical skills.

There are no preliminary rounds – just pure challenge and excitement! That's right, no qualifiers! Just jump straight into the action.

Empowering Future Data Scientists: This competition offers insights into fields like AI and machine learning. It’s a steppingstone towards becoming a data science expert, opening doors to careers in diverse industries such as finance, insurance, healthcare, and technology

The Task

Analyse and Visualise: Analyse real-time data and specific objectives using your preferred data visualization tools like Excel, R and/or Python

Prizes: The winners of the competition will be awarded the following prizes:

Student Prizes

1st Prize – AED1,500 Cash + 50% Scholarship* to study the BSc (Hons) Data Sciences programme at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai + Data Science Competition trophy engraved with the name of the winning school

2nd Prize – AED1,000 Cash + 40% Scholarship* to study the BSc (Hons) Data Sciences programme at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai

3rd Prize – AED500 Cash + 30% Scholarship* to study the BSc (Hons) Data Sciences programme at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai

N.B: *The scholarship offered will be calculated on the net tuition fee of the first year after deducting any other scholarships or discounts that the student may have received.

*The scholarship offered will be distributed equally across the instalment payments made by the student per year.

School Prizes:

• School Award for Most Participants: This award recognises the school with the highest overall participation to honour the efforts of the teachers for encouraging students to participate in the scientific competition.

• School Award for Excellence: This award recognises the school with the highest average score in the qualifying round to honour the quality of mathematics and statistics education in general

Competition Guidelines

• The competition is open to high school students from grade 10 to 13 as well as Degree Entry Programme (DEP/Foundation) students.

• E- Certificates will be awarded to all participants.

• Each school can form teams with up to 3 students to participate in this competition. There is no limit on the number of teams from each school.

• Teams will analyse real-time data and specific objectives using preferred data visualisation tools like Excel, R and/or Python.

• The competition will be held at Heriot-Watt University, Dubai on the 24th of April 2025 from 10am until 12pm.
