About this Event

The Virginia Data Center Reform Coalition is excited to announce our Lobby Day for the 2026 General Assembly session. Together, we are urging state lawmakers to take action on the unchecked, exponential growth of data centers in Virginia. This event is your chance to lobby with fellow advocates in your district for a smarter development approach to data centers in our state – no prior experience required.

  • We will schedule/assign your meetings with representatives beforehand based on your home address.
  • You’ll be led in your meetings by a lobbying expert and joined by others in your district, so there is no need to be a seasoned advocate! These are your representatives and they need to hear your voice.
  • The Coalition will host a prep meeting in the lead up to lobby day, to answer questions and go over what we are asking lawmakers to support.

The Virginia Data Center Reform Coalition is made up of more than 50 environmental, conservation, historic preservation, and climate advocacy groups, as well as representatives of diverse communities and neighborhoods across the Commonwealth.

Virginia is home to the world’s largest concentration of data centers in the world, dwarfing all other global markets. Each of these data centers consumes as much power as a small city, creating a huge increase in future electricity infrastructure needs, and their continued, unfettered growth will have a disastrous impact on ratepayers, our communities, and the environment.

We expect numerous pieces of legislation to be introduced in the 2026 General Assembly session that advocate for a smarter development approach and embrace our four main pillars of reform: Enhanced Transparency, Ratepayer Protections, State Oversight and Tax Incentive Reform.

We believe we can get legislation in place this year to bring about a smarter digital future for our state.

Transportation to Richmond

Bus option: With so many residents coming from northern Virginia, we have reserved a bus from the Gainesville Park and Ride which will depart at 5:30am and return around 4:30pm. The bus is a stress-free and more environmentally friendly way to join in the fun! Coffee and morning snacks will be available and the bus will have a bathroom. Be sure to let us know when you register if you want us to reserve you a seat on the bus. Space is limited, so let us know ASAP if you need to cancel too!

Carpool option: For those unable to take the bus, we encourage you to sign up for a carpool. You can add your car or reserve a spot in someone else’s using this link: https://www.groupcarpool.com/t/t36q8c. This link will also be in your confirmation email.
