A bilingual cabaret about disability, chronic illness and the absurdity of the health care systemAbout this Event
“Das ist doch krank!/Sick and Tired” is a bilingual cabaret event series featuring an open mic and storytelling segments that explores the themes of disability, chronic illness, mental health challenges, and experiences with the healthcare system in general. The event is hosted in German and English, and performances can be presented in either language.
A unique feature of the show is that, in addition to the booked artists, people from the audience can also participate spontaneously. To do so, they simply need to sign up for the “Tell Your Story – Open Stage Segment” before the show begins by filling out a form available at the box office. About 20 minutes before the show starts, there will be a short briefing with the host. After that, all you have to do is wait until your name is called, and then you have 6 minutes to present your own story in a creative way. Poetry, singing, dance, comedy... there are virtually no limits to creativity. The main thing is that participants follow the rules, which can be viewed on the website
Other highlights of the show include the so-called “Sick Bucket,” which is used to ask the audience anonymous questions, share a few words with the audience, or make confessions without having to step onto the stage. Slips of paper and writing materials are available at the box office. Messages are simply dropped into the bucket and read aloud by the host during the show.
At the “Mini Market Place,” an art market associated with the show, people can offer their handmade goods for sale. Clothing, jewelry, accessories, zines, buttons, cosmetics, postcards… there’s always plenty to discover, marvel at, and, of course, purchase.
For the first time, the show featuring Ebony Rose Dark and Magenta Lust will include two guest performers from the UK, in addition to the Berlin-based artists
