Darmstadt Biometrics Week 2026 – Biometric Innovation in Europe
About this Event
Biometric research has continuously paved the way for enhanced, more secure, and personalised services, from secure authentication for commercial transactions or access to government services to patient monitoring and other forms of identification. In recent years, the use of biometric technologies has increased and permeated multiple spheres of everyday life. Therefore, in line with its mission to promote the responsible use, deployment, and adoption of modern digital identity systems, the European Association for Biometrics (EAB) has strived to create spaces where different actors concerned with biometric innovation can discuss the latest developments in research and engage in cross-sectoral dialogue, sharing insights and best practices across different use cases.

TeleTrust German Biometrics Working Group (14 September)
Organised in cooperation with TeleTrusT – IT Security Association Germany, this session brings together members of the German Biometrics Working Group, a well-established forum for experts from industry, academia, and government. TeleTrusT promotes trustworthy ICT solutions and supports the development of secure and interoperable biometric systems. The working group focuses on practical applications, standardisation efforts, and regulatory perspectives, offering valuable insights into current challenges and opportunities in biometric technologies within Germany and beyond.
EAB x CERIS (15 September)
The Community for European Research and Innovation for Security (CERIS) is an initiative of the European Commission aiming to facilitate interactions within the security research community and its end-users. CERIS seeks to analyse identified capability gaps, translate them into research needs, and identify solutions, while integrating the views of citizens.
Building on the success of the first EABxCERIS event on Biometrics in Action, this second edition expands the scope to bring together stakeholders across the Horizon Europe research programme, including EU-funded projects across three domains: 1) border management; 2) fight against crime and terrorism; and 3) disaster resilient societies.
The event emphasises shared problems and transferable solutions, encouraging participants to move beyond traditional silos and identify opportunities for collaboration.

EAB-RPC (16-17 September)
For the past 13 years, the EAB Research Projects Conference (EAB-RPC) has provided a forum for knowledge exchange and networking, and it has become the largest event on research funded by the European Union in the area of Biometrics and Identity Management. This is a yearly event organised with the support of the Joint Research Center, DG HOME, Fraunhofer IGD, and Halmstadt University.
This year, the EAB-RPC will welcome back several biometrics projects funded under the Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe programmes, as well as national research projects and keynote speakers from EU agencies.
